Anti-wrinkle treatments are not a weight loss solution, and don’t affect any of the fat that is located in the face. What anti-wrinkle treatments can do, however, is force the thick facial muscles that are layered underneath the fat to relax and create an altogether slimmer look for the face. This treatment is also recommended for treating bruxism (or grinding of the teeth).
Is BOTOX® approved for facial slimming?
Facial Slimming treatments are not different from the approved use of BOTOX®. All BOTOX® injections for wrinkling will cause the muscles just under the targeted wrinkles to relax a little. The only difference with this treatment is that the injections are targeting certain areas specifically instead of incidentally.
What are the masseter muscles?
The masseter muscles are the group of facial muscles that are most often targeted with facial slimming treatments. The muscles are located on either side of the jaw, and are involved in chewing food. Depending on diet, genetics and other factors, the masseter muscles can grow very large relative to the rest of the face, creating a muscular and boxy appearance. Some men appreciate this look, but many women prefer a more oval or V-shape to their jawline.. Botox allows the muscles to remain in a relaxed stage for a period of time so they shrink back to a leaner size.
How is the treatment performed?
This treatment consists of a few simple injections in selected areas after a numbing cream is applied. The smallest needles are used for Botox® for Facial Slimming, allowing patients to heal very easily, and there is absolutely no downtime. You can expect the procedure to last no more than 15 minutes.
How many treatments does it take to see results?
With facial slimming, the most important thing is creating an even look because the masseter muscles are separate and located on either side of the face. Your plan may require only one treatment, with checkups to see if anything needs to be adjusted. A couple of treatments may be recommended in certain cases
How long will the results last?
This treatment is a gradual process — taking about 8 weeks to see final results as the masseter muscles shrink to a leaner size. Once the anti-wrinkle injections have worn off, the muscles will remain leaner until they grow back to their normal size through exercise which tends to be about 3 months.
How long does it take to recover from the treatment?
The treatment consists of only a few targeted injections. There are no recovery steps for most patients. In rare cases, there may be some minor bruising and swelling around the injection areas.
Will the treatment change the way I can eat or speak?
Not in most cases. Some patients report a “softer” feeling when they bite down, and some people have reported feeling strained after chewing for long periods of time.
